Digital audio cables provide an audio connection between a digital component and a DAC, home theater receiver or preamp processor. Unlike analog audio cables, which uses two separate wires to provide a left and right audio channel, a digital audio cable uses one wire to pass multiple channels of sound, meaning it can be used for Surround Sound. The most common types of digital audio cables are digital coax (S/PDIF), optical (toslink) and AES/EBU.
